Forklift Mishap

Forklift Mishap: Construction Worker Crushed to Death in Brooklyn

Another New York City construction worker was killed by another silly, preventable accident. This time, it was a forklift mishap that sent debris falling onto the victim, according to the New York Post.

The Post reported that the worker was crushed by materials at a site on Myrtle Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn. Apparently, a forklift tipped over on the roof of the building and dropped the deadly load. The worker was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull and died soon after the incident, according to the story.

Tragic circumstances

A PIX 11 article about the same incident provided different details, describing the victim as a 44-year-old man from New Jersey and reporting that the falling debris was actually a piece of wall. PIX 11 said the site of the fatal accident was on Myrtle between Marcy and Tompkins avenues.

According to the Post, the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) was investigating the Bed-Stuy death, which was not an isolated incident. DOB statistics indicate that in 2018 at least 11 other construction workers died on the job as of October 30.
